(“The Age” Special.) A meeting of the Carterton Swimming Club was held on Thursday night, Mr. T. H. Hughes presiding. A vote of thanks was accorded the swimmers and officials who had done so much to make the club gatherings a success; and to Messrs. Ward, Denby and Foster for their assistance. It was decided to arrange a working bee at the baths before the opening next season, and to give the caretaker, Mr. L. Walsh, a remuneration for his services to the club. The Parton Cup and miniature was presented to Mr. M. King, this season’s winner. It was announced that the baths would be closed at the end of the month. Postal Facilities. Following on representations made by the Clareville residents regarding the proposed abolition of the early morning mails, Colonel T. W. McDonald, M.P. for Wairarapa, waited upon the Postmaster-General, Mr. J. B. Donald, who recently visited Clareville and received a deputation. The Minister promised that the matter would receive his careful consideration, and Colonel McDonald has now received the following letter, which he has forwarded to Mr. H. J. McKenzie:—ln reference to the representations regarding the time of closing of the early morning mail at Clareville ,etc., I have pleasure in informing you that it. has now been decided to revert to the arrangements under which a mail for Wellington was closed at Clareville at 7.15 a.m., and a mail from Masterton was received at Clareville at 7.45 a.m. daily. In order to compensate the postmistress for her early attendance, the salary of the office has been increased by £5 per annum, and the luncheon interval at the office is being extended to two hours.” FEATHERSTON. (“The Age” Special.) Mrs. Guy Gillies (Lower Valley) who has been an inmate of Dr. Sharp’s Hospital for the past three months, has recovered sufficiently to return to her home.

Mr. W. Benton, Featherston, left on Wednesday, on a motor tour to Napier. Mrs. G. J. Ingley, Kahautara, who underwent an operation in Dr. Sharp’s Hospital on Wednesday, is now progressing satisfactorily. Euchre Evening. The fortnightly euchse tournament in. aid of the Hall funds was held in the Kaiwaiwai Hall on Tuesday night, when there was a good attendance, visitors being present from Featherston and G'reytown. The prizes were won by the following:—Ladies, Mrs. W. iSige, sent., 1; Mrs. H. C. Lorenzen, 2. Men: Mr. H. L. Williams 1, Mr H. Fenwick 2. A most enjoyable supper was provided, after which an impromptu dance was held, Mr. F. Ford acting as M.C. The next tournament will be held in a fortnight’s tiffie. Tennis. The fixtures for the third round of the ladies’ championship of the Featherston Tennis Club are as follow:— Miss D. Charles plays Miss R. Card, Miss J. Cundy piays Miss E. Viles, Miss R. McCarthy plays Mrs. Kenyon, Miss L. Vincent plays Miss M. Wakely. Men (semi-final): H. G. Cundy plays R. G. McKenzie, F. E. Fenwick plays D. Ward. These games are to he played off by Tuesday, March 26, especially the 1 ladies’ fixtures.
