GRUESOME DISCOVERIES.
. —■ —— ♦ EVIDENCE OF CRIMES IN SYDNEY. WOMAN’S BODY AND TWO DEAD BABIES FOUND. (Received Friday, 7 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 22. A gruesome discovery was made on a flower bed in Hyde Park, in the centre of the city, to-day. A woman’s dead body was found, with her hands tied behind her back, her features distorted and a wound over the left eye. The City Coroner viewed the body before its removal. A post-mortem examination revealed that the woman was strangled or smothered overnight. She was identified as Vera Stirling, with a number of aliases, who regularly slept in parks. The police express an opinion that the woman was probably outraged and then murdered.
Another ghastly discovery was made in a different part of the city. Two newly-born babes, a boy and a girl, both dead, were found in a garbage tin. A pedestrian passing saw a baby’s limb protruding from a parcel. He called the police, who unwrapped the covering and disclosed the bodies.—(Australian Press Association.)
