AN UNUSUAL EPISODE.
FIVE BODIES EXHUMED AT CBOYDON. SECRET SCOTLAND YARD INQUIRIES. United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received Friday, 7 p.m.) LONDON, March 22. Extraordinary scenes were witnessed at the dead of night at Croydon, when five bodies were exhumed at the instance of the police. Mrs. Violet Sidney, aged 69, widow of a barrister; her daughter, Vera, aged 40, who died on February 19; her brother-in-law, Edmund Duff, aged 59, ex-High Commissioner of Nigeria, who died in April of last year, and Duff ’s two daughters, Suzanne, aged two years, who died in 1904, and Margaret, aged seven, who died on 1919. The exhumation, took place simultaneously, of so many together, is probably unprecedented. Investigations began after the sudden death of Mrs. Sidney, when the Coroner adjourned the inquest without explanation. The Scotland Yard authorities have since pursued inquiries with the greatest secrecy. The disinterment took place at the cemetery after midnight, behind canvas screens.— (Australian Press Association.)
