It -is understood that The chambers of /commerce in the southern Wairarapa 3 are going to take an active part in t their areas in the same matter. The lighthouse to be erected in the f vicinity of the Kahau Rooks, and for which the Tutaneksi has been laying apparatus, will be about half-way be- - tween Cape Pniliser and Castlepoint. A delegate • said that it was not fair to punish a ' man twice had debar him from rehab i- ■ litating himself. Another remit was ’ passed urging the necessity of estab--1 feshing halfway houses for mental I cases, who could be committed by Jus* ’ tices. The next conference is* to be ' held at Timani.—(P.A.) J | A rather peculiar position has arisen ' with regard to the marketing of beef ’ in this district and in other parts of the Dominion. Prices offering for export beef have receded sharply, although no corresponding fall is recorded in the reports of sales of New beef in London or at the principal fat cattle sales within the jDamiinion. This week’s Addington report, for instance, speaks of an improvement in the price of fat cattle, lit is stated by -some of those interested in the meat export trade that the 'range of prices ruling recently in this ! country for export beef could not be reconciled with the prices obtainable in . London, and that the fall which has occurred was inevitable. Admittedly, very little beef is at present being bought and . sold for export. During j the present season, feed has been abundant in this district and this is still a t big factor where the marketing of beef .is concerned. With good autumn rains, many farmers no doubt will hold their ,|beef stock during the winter months [.unless they can sell at prices considered satisfactory. A fairly l.'urge proportion •of the beef offering esn be sold for ' consumption within the Dominion, and ’ the local market, as stated, shows no , sign of weakening.
