At the Police Court at Timaru yesterday, Percy Westaway, a farmer, of Pl-eaisamt Point, was committed for trial »in the supreme Court on a charge of negligently driving a motor car, resulting in the death of- a young man, Ernest Latomier.—(P.A.) A large gathering at Hamilton yesterday honoured the memory of Mr Thomas B. DiUicar ,of Hamilton, and Mr Clarence Hunter, of Te Awamutu, who lost their lives while engaged in rescue work in the surf at Kawhia on January 9. The Mayor presented to the next of kin medals and certificates awarded by the Royal Humane Societv. -(P.A.) The Dominion Maori tennis tournament is proceeding successfully at Hamilton. J. Davis (North Auckland) yesterday defeated V. Wehipeihana (Manawatul in the final of the junior champion.ship. Mr G. N. Goldie, of the New Zealand Association, addressing the crowd, said that he considered these were the best junior players in Now Zealand. They had a great future.—(P.A.)
