COMING EXHIBITION.

COUNCIL GRANTS HALLS FREE OF COST. LIGHTING PROPOSAL TO BE CONSIDERED. Requests in connection with the forthcoming Industrial Exhibition were brought before the Masterton Borough Council last night by a deputation from the Exhibition Committee. Messrs W. Freehand E. M. Hodder spoke on behalf of the deputation, and asked that the council make the charge for the hall an dothor rooms required in the Municipal Buildings as light as possible. It had been decided tc make a charge for admissjon. The committee was also desirous of obtaining some assistance towards a suitable lighting scheme, in which it was desired to have coloured lights suspended across the main streets. It was pointed out that similar’ schemes elsewhere had proved a great attraction and thc lights could be used for future occasions and on that account would be an asset. It was also desired to have the use of a section of land alongside the Gas Office for amusement purposes. On the motion of the Mayor (Mr. T. Jordan) the Exhibition Committee was granted the use of the large hall, as requested, free of cost, on certain conditions, and the use of the social hall from May 21 and the section adjoining thc Gas Office also free of cost. With reference to thc lighting proposal, on the motion of Councillor H. M. Peacock, the matter was deferred for the consideration of the Works Committee, upon receipt of figures as to the cost, etc., from the Exhibition Committee.
