SPECTACULAR FIRE
CHEMICAL FACTORY GUTTED IN SYDNEY. TWO EMPLOYEES INJURED. GOOD BRIGADE WORK. t (Received Tuesday, 8.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 19. A spectacular fire ttyis afternoon destroyed Hudson’s eumenthol chemical factory and also badly damaged Grace Bros.’ large refreshment room, at Glebe. The flames rose a hundred feet in the air, and there were successive explosions. Two employees of Hudsons were badly injured. Five floors were gutted. The firemen did well to save Grace Bros.’ huge department store adjoining.—(Australian Press Association.) ESTIMATE OF DAMAGE. HEROIC RESCUE REPORTED. (Received Tuesday, 9.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 19. The damage is estupated at £40,000. Thomas McKenzie, ! an employee, rescued Frank Liddell, a 15-year-old boy, under heroic circumstances. Liddell was carrying a bottle of chemical. Which- fell and exploded, severely burning him and setting fire to Hudson*® premises. McKenzie cawied the boy downstairs but their exist was cut off by flames, which spread with amazing rapidity. He retraced his through the danger area and finally reached the street with Liddell, who was in great pain.—(Australian Press Association,)
