HARRIER CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. HELD LAST EVENING LIFE MEMBERS ELECTED The annual meeting of the Masterton Harrier Club, held last night, was an enthusiastic one. Mr J. Kitcheaxer presided over a good attendance of members and intending members. The annual report, which was read and adopted, showed that last season had been an eventful one in the club’s history. The Provincial Cross-Country Championships were held under the auspices of the club and proved to be quite successful, the individual champion. being R. A. Rose, of the local club. During the season two contests were held with the Wanganui Harrier Club. In both of these the local club was successful and won the Benson Trophy for the first time from, the Wanganui Club. The five miles district

cross-country championship was won by R. Gampbell, the club championship hy L. Hack; the Shaw Rose Bowl by T. Lewis, and C. Ross won the (Dameron Cup. The balance sheet showed that the financial position of the club was fairly stable and altogether the prospects for the forthcoming season were particularly bright. The secretary of the Harrier Sub-Ooamn-’ttew of the Wellington Centre wrote advising of a motion from the Brooklyn Harrier Club that an annual levy of J<s per active member be made on all harrier clubs in New Zealand,

for the purpose of forming a central funds to be used in sending a New Zealand representative harrier team to. compete in Aiiistraiasian Cross-Co>mtry Championships, when held in Australia, the levy to be a voluntary one. The motion was discussed at length. On the motion of Dlr. L. Keats, the meeting approved of the motion and the dub decided to fall in with the suggestion. Five new members were elected. The resignation of Mr F. Law as handicapper was received with regret, several speakers expressing their appreciation of his services.

J In prposing the re-election of Mr H. ’ Henderson as secretary, Mr J. Bradbury spoke of the excellent work done ; for the dub by Mr Henderson, who, he said, worked untiringly in the inter- ■ ests of harriers throughout the season. On the motion of Mr A. A. Nattrass it was unanimously decided that Messrs J. Bradbury mnd J. Hunter be made life members of the Masterton Harrier Club. They were foundation 1 members of the club. It was later de--cided to add the name of Mr G. Shaw 1 to the life-members. It was decided that the opening run : be held on April 6, and that the details: be left in the hands of the incoming committee. A preliminary run will be' held on March 23. The subscription is to remain the same as at present, 7® 6d.
