GREAT DISPLAY
BRADMAN’S SCORE REACHES 123. AUSTRALIA ALL OUT FOR 491. | I VISITORS START BADLY. United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received Wednesday, 8.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, March 13. Rain fell during the morning before play was resumed in the test
match between Australia and England, and there was considerable doubt as to how the wicket would act, sawdust being freely used by the bowlers. When nineteen had been added to the score, Bradman played Geary straight into Tate’s hands at forward leg. He gave a great display. His partnership with Fairfax added 183. When the total was 399, Fairfax was dismissed l.b.w. The fourth century came up shortly after. Then Oldfield was smartly caught low down by Geary. Grimmett came out limping, but he had no one to run for him. The wicket was playing easy after luncheon, but it was by no means a good one. Duckworth caught in quick succession Oxenham and Wall behind the wickets, but Hornibrook and Grimmett, the last men, gave some trouble, batting soundly and neatly. Larwood was then brought on to bowl for the first time . for the day and there was a slight resumption of hostility to’ him’ but it i soon died down. Hornibrook, after making 26, was dismissed and the inn- i ings closed for 491. The visitors’ innings commenced at 3.20 o’clock. There was great excite- 1 ment, when in Wall’s first over Jardine was dismissed by a clever catch on the leg side. Stumps were drawn at 5.40 1 o ’clock.
