MEETING OF LANSDOWNE SCHOOL COMMITTEE IMPROVEMENTS TO GROUNDS At the monthly meeting of the Lansdowne School Committee, there were present Messrs' D. A. Pickering (chairman), T. Bacon, A. C. Cameron, A. H. Clarke, H. 8. McLaren, E. Welch and R. Whyborn. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs H. V. Haise and J. Noble (headmaster.) The Wellington Education Board advised, that the representations of the committee regarding river erosion had been referred to the Public Works Department who, however, could not agree with the . contentions of the committee. A letter was read from the Small Holders’ Association relative to agri* cultural work and suggesting membership of the Farmers’ Union Club. The letter was received. The headmaster reported a roll number of 361 with an average attendance of 93.5 per cent, which was considered very satisfactory. The inspectors had 'visited the school recently. It was decided' to lay down a cricket pitch in concrete and the grounds subcommittee was authorised to proceed with the work, also to report comprehensively on the proposal to pi epare tennis courts on the addition area of land recently granted by the board. The chairman reported that he had interviewed the secretary of the board at Wellington, who informed him that the erection of conveniences for infant boys had been authorised. Messrs H. S. McLaren and R. Whyborn were appointed visitors for September. Accounts totalling £4O 9s were passed.
