Mr K. Power has been appointed te the staff of the Masterton County Council. Mr A. McDonald and Mr H. M. McLaren left yesterday on a trip to Rotorua. The death occurred yesterday at New Plymouth of Air James Rutherford, father of Sir Ernest Rutherford, at the age of 89 years.—(P.A.) The medical bulletin yesterday as to the serious illness of Sir Charles Skerrett, Chief Justice, is that there is a slight improvement in his condition. Professor D. O. Williams, of the staff of the Massey Agricultural College, is on a visit to his parents, Mr and Mrs A. Williams, “Hirwais,” Pownall Street. The death occurred in a private hospital in Musterton yesterday morning of Mr John Joseph Uridge, of Gladstone. The deceased had been in ill health for some months past. The late Mr Uridge was 52 years of age and had been proprietor of the Gladstone Hotel for some years. He is survived hy his wife and one son and one daughter who will have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their sad loss. The funeral will leave Mr Z. M. Hoar 's Mortuary Chapel to-day at 2.30 p.m. for the Masterton cemetery.
