A London cablegram reports the death of Roy Kilner, tho cricketer. A Press Association message from Nelson reports the death of Mr William Boyce, Town Clerk of Motucka for many years anil an old and respected citizen. The death of Chauncey M. Dvpew, the well-known statesman and orator, is reported in a cablegram from New York. Mr Depew was 94 years of age. Mr A. H. Sutton, 8.A., who has for some years been in charge of the Vhareama School, has been appointed to the position of senior secondary assistant. at the Featherston District High School. At the annual conference of the United District Fire Brigades’ Association, which commenced last evening, ■reference was made to tho death of Fireman R. Beuth, of Auckland, who succumbed to his injuries in the Winstone petrol fire. The members expressed their sympathy by observing one minute’s silence. Members of the Bench and Bar of the North and South Islands have sent congratulatory messages to Mr E. C. Cutten. Senior Magistrate in Auckland, who celebrates this week the twentyfir.:'. anniversary of his appointment as a Magistrate (states the “New Zealand Herald.”) Niicteo". of the twenty-one years have been spent by Mr Cutten in administering the Isw ia Auckland. Mr William Crichton, of the Wellington firm of Crichton, McKay and Haughton, architects, died unexpectedly at G o ’clock on Thursday morning. Mr Crichton met with an accident at the new Wellington Hospital Building some months ago, and had not since been very well. He continued at work, however 1 and his sudden collapse and death came as a great shock to bis many friends. Mr Crichton is survived f?y a widow. Mr A. Wellington received a presentation from his fellow-members of the W.F.C.A. staff on Wednesday on the occasion pf his impending marriage. On behalf of the staff, Mr W. Jago extended good wishes to "Mr Wellington and asked him to accept a 'dinner service and an easy chair. Mr Wellington gratefully acknowledged the gifts and the good wishes by which they were accompanied.
