Mrs B. A. Gibson, of Wellington, is tho guest of Mrs T. R. Eaton, "Nikau,” Longbush.

Miss E. B. Browning, of Rotorua, is paying a visit to Masterton. Mr N. Miller, of Masterton, is leaving to-day for To Aroha for the Easter vacation and while intends taking part in the Tennis Tournament. Miss R. Eaton, who has been visiting Mrs T. R. Eaton, “Nikau,” Longbush, has returned to Pahiatua.

Tho engagement is announced of Erica, only daughter of Mr and' Mrs F. E. Chalmers, of Fernyhurst, Masterton, to Jack, second son of Mrs C. L. Broad, of Gonville, Wanganui, and the late Mr E. W. Broad, of Masterton. At a. farewell arranged by tho Albion Cricket Club, of Dunedin, the R. v E. O. Blamires, tho well-known Otago cricketer, who has been appointed to succeed the Rev, W, Rockett at Masterton. was presented with a gold watch. The following havo been elected as officers of the newly-formed Southern United Rugby Club: Patron, Hon. A. D. McLeod, M.P.; president, Mr G. A. Vincent; vice-presidents, Messrs P. Ward, Q. Donald, sent, Geo. Burt, H. Evans, B. George, F. W. Smith; management committee, Messrs R. McLaren, E. Yule, T. Scott, V. Saunders, H. Gundy, W. Crawford; secretary, Mr W. McMinn; assistant-secretary, Mr A. Johnson; treasurer, Mr G. Julian, duty captain, Mr H. Buck.

Last week, residents of tho Kopuaranga district, farewelled • Mrs C. Wright, postmistress at that place for the past few years, land presented her with a cheque in recognition of her services. Tho presentation was made by Mr R. McKenzie. Mrs Wright’s daughter, Miss Mary Wright, was also presented with, a travelliug rug. Mention was made of the fact that Mrs. Wright’s mother had previously ooejipied the position of postmistress nt Kopuaranga for about 30 years. A very pleasant social evening was spent at ping pong and cards, followed by a dance. Supper was provided by the ladiej. Mrs C. P. Jarrett has been appointed to the vacancy.
