STREET LIGHTING.
COST OF ALL-NIGHT SERVICE IN MASTERTON. ADDITIONAL £202 PER ANNUM. The Wairarapa Power Board yesterday received an application from the Bfasterton Borough Council for a quotation for lighting the street lamps and Post Office cloek from midnight until hunrise. The board agreed to provide th.- lighting for the period stated at an extra east of £1 per lamp per an>um. The Secretary-Manager stated that |hcre were 202 lamps in Masterton, and (f the £202 which would be derived in Revenue. £lOO would be spent in lamp Replacements, leaving the board £lOO as Revenue for the power supplied. The chairman (Mr J. W. Kershaw) Mated that this class of night load was What the board required as the demand lor Mangahao power became greater. O’her towns, he said, could accept the feame terms if they desired to. In reply to Mr R. J. King, the bhairman stated that the board’s figures proved that maintenance charges for the extra period would amount to at least 10s per lamp, per annum, the host over the whole district last year Being more than £2OO for 400 lamps.
