The Rev. J. Cocker, Albert street, is spending a holiday at Lyall Bay. In the recent State examinations of midwives, Miss Josephine Butler, of the Maeterton Hospital, passed with over 75 per cent of marks. The many friends of Mr Harry Simmonds, at one time manager of Haanah and Co.’s Masterton branch, will regret to learn of his death at Banks** town, Sydney, on .December 21. Mr N. Langford, locomoth’e engineer, of Greytown, who saffcred a sudden and severe illness recently, is making a splendid recovery and has been able to return to his home.

The MAsterton Amateur Athletks Club has appointed the following selectors to pick the toaiu from the provincial championshi pmeeting at Wellington on January 30:—Messrs E- J. Eastwood, Ty G. Vangioni and G. Oakley.

Commissioner D. C. Lamb, Interna tional Social Secretary and Director of Immigration for the Salvation Army, arrived al Auckland yesterday from London. Buring his Dominion visit he will interview the Prime Minister and Government officials regarding immigration.

Mr E. J. MeEachen, of the Masterton. branch of the Union Bank of Australia, has received notice of hia transfer to Ashburton, and will leave Mastqrton on Friday. On Saturday evening he was farewelled by a number of friends. Last evening the resignation of Mr MeEachen as une of the joint secretaries of the Masterton Amateur Athletic Club was rccci ed by the committee with great regret. 1 As a distance runner and as an officer of the Club Mr MeEachen has been a very valuable member. Ho will also be missed by the Masterton Harrier/ Club. He will be running for Ashburton in future. Mr H. Warrington (Timaru) will fill the vacancy t the i Bank.
