RENUNCIATION RATIFIED.
PRINCE DISPLEASES KING. DESIRES TO CHANGE STATUS. ALLEGATION OF AN ARMY PLOT (Received Tuesday, 5.5 ~m.) BUCHAREST, Jan. 4.—lt is authoritaively stated that Prince Carol intimated to the King that he wishes to divorce Helen and change his civil status, assuming the name of Searlat Maaastireau, after his estate call'll Manastorios, inherited from the late King. The “Daily Mail’’ Bucharest correspondent says Carol has undertaken not to return to Rumania for 10 years. While the newspapers assert that the renunciation is directly due to the antagonism of Bratiane, the report is gaining currency in Austro-Gcrmany that the Prince, having the support of many Rumanian officers, headed an army plot to overthrow the Government, arranging to remain abroad himself until tho psychological moment, planned for to-morrow. The Government discovered the plot and arrested the conspirators. VIENNA, Jan. 4.—“Neue Frie Presse” states that after frequent altercations the King permitted Charles to go on a holiday conditional that he returned in 20 days. Thereupon ae sent him to Queen Alexandra’s funeral. His behaviour in London caused anxiety, especially in leaving London prematurely and enjoying himself ostentatiously in Paris. The Queen wrote imploring him to return and Charles answered with the letter of renunciation from Venice. The Rumanian National Assembly, by 234 votes to 3, ratified Carol’s renunciation of his succession rights, and recognised Princa Michael as heir. Carol also waived parental authority over Michael.—(A. and N.Z.)
