FARMERS’ UNION.

MASTERTON BRANCH MEETING.

A meeting of the Masterton branch of the New. Zealand Farmers’ Union was held yesterday, Mr C. C. Jackson, piesiding. There were also present Messrs T. R. Barrer, J. M. James, E. J. Wright, L. T. Daniell, E. Cresswell, W. H. Buick, W. T. Wilton, Murray Jackson, A. J. Percy, W. T. Wilton, G. Bruce, N. Blatchford, R. D. McKenzie

Referring to the small attendance, the chairman stated that the Masterton branch was at a disadvantage inasmuch, that a quantity of the work affecting the branch was dealt with by the Provincial Executive which sat qt Masterton. The activities of the branch wore thus minimised, with the result that members lost interest. He strongly urged that steps be taken to correct the position so that members could renew their interest in the Union.

The secretary (Mr James Watson) stated that since taking office he had confined his attention to the youngest branches, which were situated in the southern valley, and he intended to work up the Masterton Branch at the earliest opportunity He agreed that the Executive somewhat overshadowed the local branch, but hoped that interest could be worked up again and the membership considerably increased.

The secretary outlined the “cull cow drive” which it is proposed to introduce shortly, and repeat at intervals, and was complimented upon the scheme which it is considered will be of big assistance to every farmer. A quantity of business transacted at the meeting is reported elsewhere.
