ANNUAL BAZAAR.

SUCCEEDS DESPITE WEATHER. Owing to the steady rain yesterday the usual garden party in aid of St. Matthew’s School, which was to have been held in Mrs A. Hosking’s grbunds, had to be abandoned,, a bazaar being held in the Parish Hall instead. Although conditions were against them, an energetic band of ladies made the a hall a very pretty sight; the sweets stall, in particular, decorated with rambler roses, was most picturesque. A large number of the school girls, attired in beautiful fancy dresses, added colour and brightness to the scene.

A total of over £9O resulted from the ladies’ efforts, the various stalls being as follows:—Sweets £l6 10s, ' nkes £l2 Is 9d, produce £l3 10s, ices and strawberries ami cream £4 15s, tea £4, general £27 Ils Bd, Father Christmas and surprise packets £5 4s, fortune telling 12s, door £6 4s 61; tototal £9O Us lid.

The competition for the doll was won by Mrs Bree, and for the nightdress, Mrs W. H. Robieson. A very creditable performance was registered by two little girls, Isobel Barton and Vida Rutherford, who made and sold 15s worth of lavender bags
