SOUTH WAIRARAPA ITEMS. (Our Travelling Reporter.) Changing Hands. Farm properties continue to change hands at prices in keeping with high values for produce. A 700 acre farm at Longbush is reported to have been disposed of to a local settler at a satisfactory figure. .Changing Over. Quite a number of those who took on dairying when wool and mutton prices receded intend changing over to sheep. A Suggestion. While giving those controlling the first Royal Show credit for good, intentions, some members of the Wai.ra.rapa P. and A. Society suggested on Saturday that the management woud be well advised in presenting the schedule of events to societies for criticism before circulating them. It was contended that this would dissipate rumours and engender confidence among exhibitors. Potatoes.

While potatoes are a good price Wairarapa growers—and there are a large number this season with good yields—are rushing their crops on to the market. One grower expressed the opinionto the* writer that the scarcity soon burst, to the joy of consumers. It i s stated that there is less blight in crops than has been known for years. A Good Start. The Kahutara sports club is to be complimented upon the manner in which its first annual gathering was conducted, and the support it received from the local settlers. 'Now that a start has been made on successful lines the prize money in the horse events will no doubt be increased to attract better entries and give added interest to visitors. With Kahutara and Pirinoa going strong, this fertile valley should lack nothing in the way of sport. Tennis. At the Carterton tennis courts on Saturday Ammundsen beat Deller in the junior championship singles 6/2, 6/3, and Miss Peters beat Miss Harp, 6/5, 6/5. In the junior championship combined doubles, Kokiri and Miss Bridge, beat Ammundsen and Miss Berrill, 60/50. During the afternoon the trophies won for the season wero presented by Dr. Tweed. Swimming At the swimming carnival held at Carterton on Saturday on behalf of the Misg Shand fund the sum of £2O 3/ was taken at the gates. Deputation. A deputation will wait on the Carterton Borough Council at its meeting to-night in reference to the reserve in Holloway street being dedicated for a school site.
