WELLINGTON’S NEW SUPPLY. WHAT IT COST. Wellington, Mar. 24—At Orongofrongo to-da> the Mayor (Mr R. A. Wright) ffffornied the ceremony of turning on the water from the Orongoxongo stream into the Wainui stream, thus providing an assured and aipple water supply for the city and suburbs for many years to come. Many congratulatory speeches were made. Mr Robert Semple, who was head of the party who carried out the work under the co-operative principle, the price being £6 14/ per foot, said Australian and New Zealand records were broken in the matter of speed, and possibly the world’s record. He stated that the cost was £150,000, and the payments to the party amounted to £7'.000.—(P.A.)
