Mr H. M. I Hilton has been reappointed British [ i ade Commissioner to New Zealand. Mr James W'yllie, of Sel'ton, Canterbury, has consented to judgo the draught horse section at. tho Solway show. Mr J. M. Davie, of Rongomai, has'received a private, ''able stating that his son, Corporal Davie, was in hospital in London. Mr J. F. Previous to his sickness Private - Heckler had been in the trenches for 17 moaths. The death occcurred on Monday at Burns stroot, Caversham, of Mrs Leech, a very old resident of the Tuapeka district. She arrived in Lawrence about the time of the Gabriel Cully rush, and resided there until a few years ago, when she renrcoved to Dunodin in order to live with her daughter (Mrs Moore). She was highly respected. Mrs Leech was 87 years of age. _ She was a connection of Lord .Nelson. The. death occurred at the Masterton hospital yesterday of Mr William Charteris, father of Mrs W. Rutherford, of Maori Hill, Alfredton. The deceased, who was S3 years of ago, had for some years "been living in quiet retirement at A'ifrodton. He entered the hospital in December last, and his demise was not unexpected. The funeral will leave the residence of Mr H T. Hume, Lansdowne, for the Masterton cemetery at 1.30 p.m. on Friday. A very old resident of Parnell, Dr. Charles W.' Sanders, died suddenly of heart failure on Monday, while in a tram car. He was returning to his home in Moore's Avenue, Parnell, whore ho has lived for close on half a century. Deceased had reachecT the ripe age of 83 years. He was general secretary for the Theosophical Society of New Zealand, and recently returned from the conference of that body which was held in Wellington this year. A pretty wedding was celebrated at St. Patrick's Church yesterday morning by Jfche' Rex. Monsignor McKenna, when Miss Ell?n Hanley, youngest daughter of Mrs Hanley, of Pine streetj Master:ton, was married to Mr Samuel Sinclair of Masterton, and formerly Of Edinburgh, Scotland. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Private Ted Hanley, was charmingly attired- in white crepo-de-eh ine, and wore tho orthodox wreath and veil, and earned a pretty bouquet. The bridesmaid, Miss Diggins, wore a white gabaffline costume and a Dutch-hat. After the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of tho bride's mother. The young couple left for the south on their honeymoon trip, tlTe bride's travelling costume being of navy blue serge, with hat to match.
