CARGO-BROACHING.
A waterside worker at Wellington was sentenced to a month's imprisonment last week for broaching the cargo of a coastal steamer and stealing •' pair of Imots. The sentence did not err on the side of severity. The pillaging of cargo has become a trade with many of the watersiders. Where, one man is discovered, a hundred escape detention. The losses to fradcrs amount to thousands of pounds every year. It is suggested that the waterside police are not as energetic as they might be in running drtwn offenders. Be that as it may, the fact remains that while hundreds ol cases of cargo-broaching are reported every year, tho number of arre«ts made is comparatively few.
