it is reported that Private W. E. Davidson, of Featherston, has been wounded and admitted to hospital. Mr A. €r. Wise ,of the Melbourne "Herald," is at present in Mastorton looking up old friends. Mr Wise leaves for Auckland on Tuesday next, en route for America. Tho many friends in. Martinborough ,says tho "Star," of Mr W. I. Shanley, at one time in busintss here as a photographer and plumber, will regret to hear that he is at present seriously ill in the Military Hospital at Trentham. An old .and respected resident of Auckland, in the person of MiDavid Patten, passed away at the Auckland 'Hospital on Tuesday, 22nd instant. Mr Patten, who was born in 1849, while his parents were on the voyage from England, has resided in Auckland since then. Mr Ralph Beetham telephoned the "Age'* office last evening from Brancepeth that his father, Mr H. H. Beetham, who underwent a serious operation yesterday morning, is making satisfactory progress, and that the doctors are exceedingly pleased with his condition. The death occurred at Upper Plain, on Wednesday, of Mrs Pearce, relict of the late J. S. W. Pearce, late of Stinchcombe, Gloucestershire, England. Deceased, who was 88 years of age ,had been an invalid for a considerable time. The funeral will leave the residence today at 2.30 p.m.
