ELECTION BUNDLES.
it is most unfortunate that the recent election in" New Zealand should have been characterised by a series of bunglef? The returning officers were appointed by the Ward Government, and were presumed to have a knowledge of tho'r business. The Reform Party was entirely blameles;, in the matter. So far a* the Dunedin Central seat is concerned, it looks as though Mr Statham owes his election to the bungling of one of the deputies. It would serve the Oppo sition right i"f it were to lose the seat, if only as a, penalty for the apparently slipshod manner iii which it appointed returning officers in the past. However, in the. circumstances it would not be surprising it' Mr Statham were, to resign and offer lii'm.«.'lf again to the electors. Were he to do so, his election would be almost a. foregone conclusion. Th© relative strength of parties will not he known for some day* yet.
