THE SLAUGHTERMEN'S MOVE.
The move of the slaughtermen of New Zealand in the direction of securing re-registration i s significant. The men are evidently desirous of securing a preference, clause, so that those who are not at present manning the boarJs, not being efficient, could be excluded from the Union ranks and thus prevented from working. This is a very ingenious move, and it remains 1 to ho seen whether it proves successful. There is also the consideration that, if the men are cited before the Arbitration Court, they will have the Waingawa agreement as evidence of the equity of their demands. The new position is decidedly interesting. It serves to show, however, that tho Arbitration and Conciliation Act requires to be immediately overhauled.
