AGRICULTURAL SHOWS.

MANAWATU. By Telegraph—Press Associatkn. PALMERSTON N., Oct. 31. There was glorious weather for the secoboTday of the show, which was a tremendous success in every direction. It is estimated that about 20,000 people were present. Si'* Joseph Ward and the Parliamentary party were present, and were entertained at luncheon by the President and officials of the association. The judging of the live stock divisions and the ring competitions proceeded, with the following results .-—Ring Competitions.—Victoria Cross, Trooper H. P. Taylcr 1, Ser-geant-Major Ranley 2; hunters'competition (lady riders only), H. Westalnd's Fifi 1, H. Westland's Erin-go-bragh 2; leaping competition, J. . McNiven's Pickpocket 1, J. Mitchell's ( Bushy Park 2, R. Morrison's Moonlight 3.., The entries in the horse sections were very good, and several fine animals were exhibited. . _ln the thoroughbred class the championship in stallions was awarded to puhcan's Conqueror. Carriage horse's: Stallion, Handyside's Britain's Prjde; • mare, R. McMurray's Trilby. Weightcarrying hack, 5 - J. H. , McNivejj's,. Juggler. Champion hack of the show, light-weight, Mrs Riddiford's Whipcord. , Horse most suitable as troop horse, P. Wotton's Goneaway. Lady's hack, P. Haggit's Jack. Single harness horse, F. McDonald's Comrade. Draughts—Stallion, F. A. Bremer's .Lord Erskine. Champion heavy draught J. Mitchell's Stirling Prince. Champion gelding, H. M. Sinimonds' Captain. Best pair draught horses, H. M. Simmonds' Hocker and Captain. In the cattle section, the Mount, Herbert Estate's Duke of Beaufort was the champion Shorthorn bull, A. M. Williams' Buttercup the champion cow. G. F. Moore's Ensign was the champion . Hereford bull. There was only - the one award in Aberdeen Angus classes, J. S. Handyside's bull being awarded first prized J. Kyle's Union Jack was the chamfiion Ayrshire bull, this section befngr very fine. J. Kyle's Lassie was the champion Ayrshire cow, and Colpman and Kaiston's Lily the champion heifer in the 'same breed. Jerseys w.ere a very fine class, entries being numerous and the quality good. E. Eagle's M.L.C. was the champion bull, and J. Quirk's Lancelot the reserve champion. J. McCrea's Primrose was the champion,heifer in this section. In the •'• Holstein-Frisan section, N. King's Sir de Kol was the champion bull. In the sheep section Lincolns. Romney Marsh, and English and Border Leicesters were well represented. W. H. Wyburne's ram was champion in Lincolns, G. Wheeler's* Royalist in Romney Marsh, while *E. Short's exhibit was awarded the championship in eWes in this section. S.Lancaster exhibited the champion ram in the English Leicester class, and Wm. Perry the champion ewe in the same sett.on. In Border Leicesters, Hon. J. D. Ormond's was the champion ram, antTJ. F. Keid's the reserve champion in the sa:ue class. The Hon. J.' D. , Ormond's ewe earned the title of champion. In Shropshire Downs, G. L. Marshall's was the charm/ion ram, onn ', " Rirch's the chamnion en p. The Southdown exhibits were, V<Liy\ even, and up to. the standard of previous years. ' Ihe Manavvatu Kennel Club had a very good exhibit, the number being well up to those of previous years, and the same may be said of the poultry exhibit, in which division W. Cook, J. Jarvis and one or two others carried off most ofthe prizes. There were numerous sideshows which helped to add life_and vitality to the scene, which was~bn4bf great brilliance, the large grandstand, which was crowded with people, presenting an imposing appaarance.

ASHEURTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. ASHBURTON, Oct. 31. The Ashburton A. and P. Association's thirtieth annual show wis, opened, to-day, under perfect weather conditions. The attendance was hardly up to the corresponding day of last year, and the number of entries is likewise lower, though their quality was in nowise diminished. Judging was proceeded with to-day, but will not be complete til! to-mor-row (People's Day), when it expected there will be a very large attendance. There were record entries in the English and Border Leicester classes, and some fine animals were shown. TIMARU.. By Telegraph—Press Association. TIMRAU, October 31.. People's Day at the Timaru show was favoured with very fine weather. The attendance -"was about the same as" last * year, and is estimated at about 7,000. ' , , : , • In the draught hor*e classed the chief prizes in all went to Oamaru and Ashburton. Mr Gardiner, of the former place, took the championsnip in the stallion and mare classes. The jumping (five events) were highly interesting, and passed off without an accident. As" on the first day, the prizes for light horses were distributed locally. Other classes introduced on the second day were of comparatively little importance.
