A large number of friends and wellwishers of Mr and Mrs Rondan who aeo leaving -Evans Flat to take up their residence at Jittrick where Mr Riorclan has purchased an hotel and ■blacksmithing bus-mess, met in the school hall on Tuesday evening, 30th July, for the purpose of bidding them farewell. Mr W. E. Leslie presided, a nd after refreshments bad-l#wn partaken of ho referred in a happy speech to the many estimable qualities of their guests whom they all greatly regretted to lose from their midst. Mr -Rior-dan's blacksmith's shop had 'been a great convenience to Ihe farmers of the district i\\m\ they would oxperience much U'vouvenience ll'y its closing up. However, their loss was probably Mr and Mrs Riordan's gain and they all sincerely wished them every success and happiii ss in their new sphere. As a slight tangible ' token of their esteem he asked their acoeptanco of a handsome Kaiapoi travelling rug bearing the following inscription : Presented to Mr and Mrs James Iliordan by their Evans Flat friends. 30/7/12." Mr G. \V. Brook also spoke of the good •[iialities of Mr and Mrs Riordan and expressed his regret at their removal from the district.
