OBITUARY.

MR JOHN HOGG, JiUN. The many friends of Mr and Mrs John Hogg, of [Evans Flat, •will regret to team of the death of their son JcjJhi which oocurred at tha JCrom? well Hospital yesterday morning alter an illness of about two months. The deceased, who was a nativo of this district, was in his forty-sixth | year. (After leaving tsohool he worked on the farm and assisted his father in various road contacts for several years and then left for the North Island where he found employment as a road and bush contractor. During his seven years' residence in the North Island he was a prominent member oi the Feilding Eille Club and had tho honour on one occasion of winning tho King's I'rize for shf-oting, the trophy being a 303 rifle. When contingents were being foircied for service at the Boer War he was among the volunteers and left for South Africa with the Third Contingent which sailed from Lyttelton, ami J saw active service up till the fall of Pretoria when he was prostrated by fever but pulled through after eight weeks in the hospital, after which he returned to New Zealand. Although naturally of a robust constitution he never fully recovered froan the effects of this illness in South Africa. Since hii return to New Zealand he threw his energies into mining pursuits in the Cromwell distriot. Some years ago he married the daughter of Mr Ellis, wine manllfacfurer, of Nelson, and she with a familv of three youn j solns is left to . nioiVn the loss of a loving husband and father. The funeral will take place 'at Lawrence on Sunday afternoon the remains being brought through by road from ( romwell.
