LAWRENCE LAWN TENNIS CLUB

The annual oueeting of the Lawrence Lawn Tennis Club was held on Friday, l!>t!h inst., when there iwas a fair attendance of members. The president, Mr F. 11. Fish, was in the choir. Report and Balance-Sheet. TIIO report and balance-sheet, as unI del', was submitted by the secretary and approved : During tho season the Club was unfortunate in losing ,a number of members through removal from tho district, and tho membership now stands at 23 instead of 35 as in the previous year. Ainjongisl the removals were the clujbl's secretary and treasurer, Messrs Taylor and Bjorngaard, whose services the Club could ill dlford to lose. Three matches were played and won-ono 'against, Waitahuna at Lawrence, one against Milton at Milton, and a return with the latter club. This Hatter match was, unfortunately, spoilt by heavy radii. As a recommendation from the outgoing Committee and from the last annual [Meeting, the question of laying down a second asphalt court ;was left to your Committca for consideration during the season, audi as you are aware, after considerable trouble and delay, the now court was completed and since the New Year has been available for play. 'At tho same time advantage was taken of the presenoe of tho contractor to have the old court top-dressed, this being done More the commencement, of the new court so that during the wliolo season one court was open for play. The weather during the wholo time the work was going on was wretched, not only delaying its completion but -affecting considerably its construction. Neither tho top-dressing of the old court nor tho laying down of the new is perfect : the old court is in good order and with another gcod top-dressing the new court will be at least as good as the other. The thanks of the Committee and cf th e Clubt are duo to an energetic grounds committee and Mr .1. Edie as inspector for their attention to the contract : and your Committee are of the opinion that taking everything into account the Club 'got full value for the mionev spent. Tho contract price of the new Court- was £-15. which was increased by C 3 10s to admit of a moro solid foundation mittde. The 'top-dres-sing of the old court cost £5, -and with two small sundries the total cost was :Csl 7s (id. The Committee aro still under a liability in respect of the work to the amount' of £4O, against which there is a credit balance of cash in hand 'of £3 5s let. Members' subscriptions usually amount to about £25 for the season so that a considerable reduction can be mado in the Club's liability from that source alone. It will be tho duty 0 f tHe incoming comniiitotee to consider whether any further expense will be incurred in improving the .court, until this liability is aijet. Receipts.
