TO MJJ GORDON HAY. At the Past ©Bice oa Monday afternoon Mr Gordon Hay, on the occasion of kia transfer to Mastentoin, was presented 'by the stall with a brief bag. Mr Fisher in making the presentation referred to the esteem m which the recipient was held and assured fciim that he carried with him the gc-oawiU of the stall Mi Hay suitably replied and voiced his regret at leaving Lawrence and the ollice.

An opportunity was taken at the Orphans' Club gathering on M-OiKla/ night to present Mr Gordon Hay, oi <<he local (Post Office stall, who is under transfer to Masterton, with a handsome travelling rug as a token of esteem and appreciation from the members and citiaens of the courteous maimer in which he had carried out his duties as a. public officer during the time he had been in the public service. His Worship the Mayor who made the presentation spoko in eulogistic terms of Mr Hay's conduct as a citizen, his courteous manner, ns a public oilicer and the generous manner in which he had given his services in social (movements for the benefit of the town and district, and assured him that in leaving his native town ho would carry with him the very best wishes of the residents of the town and district lor his success and advancement in the public service. Mr H. H. Leary (President of the Orphans' Club) spoko of the assistance the Club had derived from Mr Hay's membership and their regret at losing so capable a musician from their'ranks. At the same time they recognised that the a- loss would bo Mattel-ton's gain. He hoped that Mr Day would over retain pleasant memories of the evenings spent in company with his brother Orphans in Lawrence. As a business man lip had ccmca good deal into contact with Mr Hay aud could endorse all that his Worship the Mayor had said as to the courteous manner in which he had carried out his public duties. On behalf of the members oi the Orphan's Club ho wished him every success in his new sphere of labour. Mr Hav briefly and appropriately acknowledged the gift and expressed the hope that the Orphans' Club would have a long and successful career.

On Wednesday evening, l'ith hist., thero was a large gathering of.Wethcrstones residents (old and young) to bid farewell to Mrs George Coxon on the eve of her departure for Dunedin after a residence of upwards of 5(1 years in Welberstones. }'«r -I. b-. Simpson presided and alter a shirt programme of musical items, recitations, &c, had been disposed oi he said tho principal and most important part of the proceedings had been reached. This was to present Mrs Coxon with a tangible tc.kon of their culitmi and goodwill. In asking her acceptance from the residents of the district of a beautiful tnuvcUing rug ho said he had known Mrs Coxon intimately for the past thirty years and had always found iber veiobliging and willing to rend.' <-\cry assistance in her power to her neighbours, and -as postmistress during tho last twelve years she had given the highest satisfaction to all and her place would he hard.to fill. They all regretted her removal from the district but at the same time wished her health and happiness in her new home. To Master Mathew Coxon he also proioilod a pair of gold sleevelinks. Mr F. Coxon, on behalf of his mother and brother, thanked the people of 'Wetherstiones for the handsome presents made 'them and for i\\ K very complimentary remarks with which they had been accompanied. They would always, he assured them. remember with pleasure the happy associations formed during their residence in Wetherstones.
