UNION SUNDAY SCHOOLS PICNIC AT BLUE SPUR.

The annual picnic in connection with the Blue Spur Presbyterian and Wesleyan Sunday Schools was held on Eew Year's Day in Mr T. Jefferies' paddock. Mr Neill and Mr Luke, assisted by several gentlemen, had the children assembled at the school, whence they marched with banner and flags to the recreation ground. Before they fell out, the Rev. Mr Fraser addressed the children, wishing them one and all "A Happy New Year/ The ground was a little damp, but not so as to make it unpleasant. Some books as prizes were presented by the Revs. Fraser and Griffin to be competed for by running, etc., which tended to keep up the interest. All sorts of games and outdoor exercises were indulged in by both young and old. In the afternoon a very large concourse of people had assembled, and the aspect was a pleasing one, all apparently bent on pleasure and a day's outing, discarding the cares and bustle of domestic duty for a time. Towards four o'clock cakes and lollies, along with an abundance of tea, were freely distributed among the assemblage, after which the games were entered into with renewed vigor. No effort was spared to make everything enjoyable and the people happy. Lollies were freely distributed during the afternoon. It was about eight o'clock before the picnic party finally broke up.
