DUNEDIN MARKETS-STOCK, &c.

Mr L. MacliEAn, under arrangements with the British, and New Zealand Mortgage and Agency Company (Limited), reports for the week ending March 26th as follows : — Fat Cattle. — For to-day's market there were only 135 head yarded, nearly all of which were very ordinary quality, only a few pens being anything like prime. These latter realised prices aßout equal to last week's quotations; but oh the whole the market was a shade easier, and in fact sales were difficult to effect at almost any priceespecially for medium quality. Best bullocks fetched from £7 10s to £10 10s ; others, £5 10s to £7 ; cowe and heifers, from £5 to £6 7s 6d, and oae extra prime cow £9. I sold drafts on account of Messrs John Watt and Co., Heron and Sinclair, and others, at for bullocks £5 12s 6d to £6 15s, and oows up to £4 15f, and quote prime beef at from 17b 6d to 20b per 1001 b.

Fat Sheep.— 26B6 were penned for to-day's market. This number, although medium, proved quite in excess of trade requirements, and but for the fact that several lines were taken by graziers a heavy decline would have had to be accepted;' as it 'was, a drop of about Is per headironi last week's'ifrices was qmte^appaitnti, anijaalev i jggrv/'flifn>ult to effect. Best' croiibreaS'FroQ^ht from 13s to 17a 61 ; one pen of very superior Leicester ewes brought up to 18s; merinos, lightweights, 7s 3d to 93. I sold on account of Messrs Dickaon and Ross (Portobello), 121 crossbreds at lis 9d ; on account of Henry Driver, Esq., 154 croesbreds, at ,from 12s to 13a 6d ; and 68 crossbreds from Mesirs Smith Bros (Stirling),; at from 10j 3d to 13s 3d ; and on account of William Shand, Esq., 38 crossbreds at 12s 9s; and quote prime mutton at 2£d per. ,1b- Privately I have placed several lines at late quotations. Fat Lambs.— 3B4 penned, and sold up to 10s 6d per head. I sold 39 at quotations. Fat Calves. — Thirteen yarded, and sold up to 21s. Store Sheep. — Owing to the decline in prices within the last fortnight sales are difficult to effect, and business in this class of stock for the present is almoat at a standstill. However, I expect that so soon as the stubble feed is available there will be a good demand for both oroßsbred. and merino ewes. Wool. — The season being now almost over very few lota are coming to hand. I sold all lots forward at my Bkin sale on Tuesday at late quotations. ' Sheepskins— Monday being the anniversary of the Province, was observed as a public holiday, so the usual sale was held on Tuesday, when I offered a full catalogue, the following prices being obtained^ viz. : — Dry crossbreds, Is 6d to 2s 6d ; do merino, 2s to 3s 9d ; pelts, 7d to lOd ; green skins, la 3d to Is 6d ; lambskins, Is 4d to Is 6d ; and have sold privately during the week 1500 green skins at from Is 3d to Is Bd, according to quality. Hides. — There is a steady demand, and all lots coming forward are readily placed at last quotations. Tallow is still in good demand. I have cleared all lots to hand at for rough fat 18s to 22s 6d ; medium, 20s to 24s per cwt.
