Mr James Cahill withdrew his application to purchase deferred payment land at Tuapeka West, and requested a refund of the deposit paid by him. — Applicant to be allowed to have deposit returned. bun, no. 212. Mr Herbert, lessee of Run No. 212, applied to be allowed to exercise his preemptive right over 640 acres of land on that run, the same not having been previously exercised. Some time ago Mr Herbert lodged a similar application, which had been refused, and it was now decided to adjourn the consideration of the request in order that the reasons for declining the previous application might be ascertained. TABLE HILL. Messrs Connell and Moodie applied for leave to purchase section 4, block LIV., Table Hill district, at £1 per acre. — Consideration adjourned. BENGER DISTROT. Mr C. Nicholson, on behalf of himself and others, forwarded the following letter regarding the land lately opened up for application in the Benger district : — "I have the honor to draw your attention to the fact that three men and myself hold an extended claim of three acres on the mining reserve at the lower end of Moa Flat, which the members of the Board have determined to open up for application under deferred payments on the 24th inst. at any land office I may state without reservation that this is a most mysterious and singular policy on the part of some of the Commissioners of the Board, which, if carried to the issue proposed, cannot eventually fail to act most injuriously on the gold producing interest generally. Our land was pegged off long before the land was sectionised, the larger portion of which is included in sections 9 and 10. Therefore, as we have a prior right to these sections by virtue of the Mines Act, I make this appeal to the Board to maintain that right intact. I deem it unnecessary to forward the certificate of the claim, as it has already been laid before the Board, and we trust that you will take into your serious consideration the injury that this action of the Board must inevitably inflict on those engaged in mining along the Molyneux." — Mr Bastings stated that he had received a letter from Mr George Mackay, on behalf of the miners at the Teviot, saying that they had interviewed Commissioners Clark and Green while they were on their way up country to inspect the runs. The miners were then recommended by those gentlemen to write to him (Mr Bastings) asking that he should see the Minister of Lands in reference to the matter. He had interviewed the Minister of Lands, who had told him that the subject had been fully gone into by the Government, who had written to the people interested, and had no wish to interfere with the Board in this matter or any other of the Board's business. He would move — " That sections 9 and 10, ' block VI., Benger, be withdrawn from sale." — Agreed to. EXCHANGE OF LEASES. The application of Thomas Scott to exchauge his agricultural lease of section 26, block VI., Tuapeka East; and Soreen Paskenson, for exchange of agricultural lease of section 62, block V\, same district, to, deferred payment leases, was granted.
