WOMEN’S DIVISION.

Halswell Branch Holds Meeting. A meeting of the Halswell branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union was held recently. Mrs Parlane oresided. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs W. Wilson in the illness of her husband. It was decided to celebrate the branch’s second birthday at an afternoon party on Thursday, June 27. A display of antiques will be staged on that afternoon. Members were asked to bring their friends and to help provide the afternoon tea. Mrs Parlane kindly donated a cup to be competed for each year. Mrs Parlane gave an interesting demonstration of smocking, which was most appreciated by all. The competition for darning was won by Mrs C. Gates, with Mrs Chapman second and Mrs Blatchford third. Mrs McDonald judged the competition. Afternoon tea was dispensed by Mrs F. Wilhelm, Mrs A. Payne, Mrs Coakley, Mrs Chapman, Mrs Copping and Miss Watson. Soutlxbrook-XTaxton. The monthly meeting of the Southbrook -Flaxton branch was held recently in the Southbrook Hall. Mrs C. Shuttlewcrth presided over a good attendance. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs T. Rainey in her illness. An invitation from the Cust-West Eyreton branch to attend a birthday party on June 6 was accepted. It was reported that the committee had drawn up a programme for the next six months. There would he a bring and buy, and also sales table at all monthly meetings in future. The branch had a gift box, and any garments made by members for the box would be distributed to those in need in the district. In the competition for fancy article not costing more than is 6d Mrs Kolkman was placed first, Mrs Atkinson and Miss D. Fraser equal second, and Mrs W. McIntosh fourth. Mrs Clark, of Ra.ngiora, gave an interesting travel talk, for which she was accorded a vote of thanks. The hostesses were Mesdames Atkinson. J. Hughey, C. Shuttleworth a'nd E. Stanton.
