THE COMPETITIONS.
Recalls in Restricted Scholarship. To-day’s classes at the Competitions included the piano solos, own selection, for the scholarship awarded by the society for competition among those over eighteen years of age who have not previously won a pianoforte scholarship. The value of the prize to the winner, £7 7s, is the highest offered this year. It will consist of tuition from any teacher selected by the winner. Thirteen classes are set down for tonight’s programme, which should be a lengthy one, there being thirty including ballroom dancing, a oneact play, dancing, piano solos, character sketches and ballets. To-morrow will see the final judging. To-day’s results were as follow’s : PIANO SOLO. The society’s scholarship, entitling winner to tuition to the value of £7 7s. (a) Test solo; (b) own selection. Restricted class. Nine entries. Recalls: Misses Mary Morrison (Fendalton). Hazel Gibbard (Christchurch) rind Zita Munson (Runanga). ENGLISH SONG. Mezzo. Open class. Twenty entries. Recalls: Misses Myrtle Wraight (Punsandel), Dorothy Horrell (Christchurch) and Winifred Bruce (Ashburton). Highly commended: Misses Delia Dorimer (Christchurch), Phyllis Clare (Dunedin), Dulcie Haberfield (St Albans) and Winifred Bruce (Ashburton).
