RELIEF WORKERS.
Transfer of Delegates is Discussed in House. (“ Star ” Parliamentarv Reporter.! WELLINGTON, This Day. Complaints that relief job delegates as soon as they became active in the interests of the men were required to stand down for a week or a fortnight, and then transferred to other jobs w T as referred to in the House to-day. Mr E. J. Howard, Labour member for Christchurch South, asked the Minister of Employment (Sir Alexander Young), to express the definite attitude of the Unemployment Board in the matter of the recognition of the employing authorities of these delegates. The Minister replied that the matter was purely one for the local bodies. Those engaged under scheme No. 5 were employees of the local authorities concerned. The job conditions and disputes concerned the relations between the men and the employing bodies, who doubtless followed their normal practice of according recognition to the men’s representatives. The board had no authority over local bodies in that matter.
