TRIVIAL DISPUTE.
Police Shoot Attacking Indians. (Received January 10, 12.20 p.m.) BOMBAY, January 9. Nine are now dead, including two women, as a result of the Kolhapur shooting, which followed a trivial dispute between Mohammedans and Government officials over the proposed removal of sacred trees. The Mohammedans threatened an officer, whereupon the leader’s arrest was ordered. The mob refused to surrender their leader and the police fired blank cartridges at them. The mob, numbering 300, then attacked the police with stones, sickles and axes and the police fired into the crowd which dispersed leaving the dead and wounded on the ground.
