CHARMING OPERETTA.
“ Princess of Poppyland ” Staged.
On 'Saturday afternoon “The Princess of Poppyland” was presented by the pupils of Villa Maria in their school hall. The performance was one of outstanding merit, the singing, acting, dancing and orchestral items being all unusually attractive. Miss’ Kathleen Ainger, as the Princess, displayed much talent, Joyce O’Malley made a charming Prince, while Betty Rae, as Dozey, highly amused the audience. The Wicked Baron, K. Edmonds, and his two followers, U. Robinson and E. Edmonds, the Merry King. Othalie Gamble, and the Witch, Agnes Lynsky, all proved highly entertaining. The fairies and their queen, the gollywogs and butterflies delighted the audience. Miss Flora Fitt did an attractive scarf dance. The colour scheme and novel lighting effects added to the merit of the work. The operetta was repeated last evening.
