Mrs Ivan Wood, Beverley Street, will spend Christmas at Hanmer Springs. Mrs H. J. Quarrell*and Miss Norah Quarrell, Opawa, will visit Hanmer Springs for Christmas. Miss Daphne March, who has been spending a few weeks in Wanganui, has returned home.

Mrs L. Harris, of Prebbleton, who underwent an operation in the Christchurch Hospital, has now returned home.

Mrs R. Bryan, Lyttelton, left for Wellington and Sydney last evening. She will spend an extended holiday with her mother.

Miss Cherry. Smith, St Elmo Courts, will leave on Friday week for Opotiki, Bay of Plenty, to spend Christmas with her mother, Mrs Garland-Smith.

Mrs P. A. Laurie, Christchurch, will leave this evening to pay a long visit to her daughter, Mrs R. J. M’Lelland, Gisborne.

Mr and Mrs John Montgomery, Holmbrook, Fendalton. who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs W. H. Montgomery, Wairewa, Little River, have returned to Christchurch. Mrs T. E. Taylor and the Jessie Mackay Testimonial Committee have issued invitations for a gathering at Mrs Taylor’s residence, Cashmere Hills, on Saturday evening next, when a testimonial and cheque will be presented to Miss Mackay.

Mr and Mrs John Chapman and their three daughters, who have been spending some months in Christchurch, left last evening on the first stage on their journey home to Fiji. They will motor through the North Island, and will sail from Auckland next Tuesday by the Monterey.

Trinity College licentiate diplomas for elocution have recently been gained by two of Miss Lucy Cowan’s pupils, Miss Joy de Lisle and Mr Malcolm Rickard. Miss Nell Gillespie passed the practical examination, and Misses Ray Barrell and Reta M’Kendry the associate. Miss Thelma Rickard was awarded honours in higher local, and Miss Lola Jeffries honours in the junior division.

Mrs Wilfrid White and Miss Mary White, Summerhill, Levels, are spending a few days in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs T. W. C. Tothill, Rolleston Avenue, will spend the holidays at Woodbury.

Miss L. Cunninghame, Auckland, is the guest of Mrs A. R. Blank, “ Vailima,” Fendalton.

Mrs George Pascoe, Kelburn, has returned to Wellington, after spending several weeks in Christchurch.

Mrs Harold Johnston, Christchurch, is visiting her mother, Lady Bell, Lowry Bay, Wellington. Miss Helen Denniston, Mansfield Avenue, left to-day to spend some weeks with her sister in Dunedin. Mr and Mrs C. 11. Hewlett and Miss Alice Hewlett, Fendalton, will spend Christmas and New Year at their farm at Rakaia.

Mr and Mrs G. W. C. Smithson and family, and Miss N. Williams, Merivale Lane, will leave on Friday week to spend a two weeks’ holiday in Nelson. Mr and Mrs K. W. Robinson and family, Fendalton, will spend the Christmas holidays caravanning at Wainui.

Mrs T. T. Thompson and Miss Eunoe Thompson, who have been living in Christchurch for some months, will return to Amberley on Monday. Mr and Mrs Bede Loughnan, Sumner, will leave a few days before Christmas for the North Island, where they will spend a motoring holiday.

Mrs W. F. Browne and Miss Joan Browne. Latimer Square, left last evening en route for Havelock North, where they will attend the breaking-up ceremony at Woodford House. The Rev I. Mason and Mrs Mason, of the Melanesian Mission Station, Fiu, Mala, Solomon Islands, are spending a few days in Christchurch, and will leave for the south on Monday next.

Mrs R. W. Morrow, Fendalton, left last night for Havelock North, to attend the breaking-up ceremony at Woodford House. She will later go to Picton, where she will be joined by Mr Morrow and other members of her family for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
