LINCOLN COLLEGE.
Meeting of the Board of Governors. The Board of Governors of Canterbury Agricultural College met this morning, Dr 11. G. Denham presiding. There were also present:—Messrs E. .1 Howard. M.P.. 11. S. S. Kyle, M.P., D. Buddo, John Deans. C. FI. Hewlett, W. O. Rennie, H. A. Knight and W. A. Banks. The following scholarships were awarded Job Osborne Scholarship—W. L. Harbord. Diploma Matriculation Scholarship (for highest average in Matriculation Entrance examination) —G. H. Nelson, Wellington and A. G. Wilson, Dunedin. It was announced that “ Farmers’ Day” would be held next Tuesday. A motion was adopted expressing appreciation of the services of the scientific and technical staff during the year. The farm report stated that the weather during November was unusually dry and warm. The absence of winds was most marked and for this reason liav-making had been somewhat retarded. Drying had depended upon the sun alone and this was slow and unsatisfactory for curing hay. Grass was making little growth and pastures had run to seed very early. Bottom growth was being eaten out and unless rain fell soon this growth would be finished about a month earlier than usual. The kale sown in field 16 had been eaten out by the brown beetle and had now been cultivated and drilled a second time. Field 25 had been worked and sown in rape. Shearing was finished during the last week of the month. The sheep came out of the wool in good condition, although the wool showed some signs of a hard winter. The report was adopted.
