BEACH PATROL.
Decision of North Beach Club. At. a meeting of the executive of the North Beach Surf Club held yesterday Mr V. G. Spiller presided. A letter was received from the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association that a ruling had been received from the New Zealand Council to the effect that Mr A. T. Dalton is an amateur. The Canterbury Surf and Life-Saving Association wrote stating that the association had decided to advise, clubs who employ beach patrols that the association does not intend to employ b'each patrols this season, and recommends that those clubs only accept liability up to the amount of money assured of for this purpose. Mr Spiller said that the club could not be expected to find the money, and it was high time the public realised its responsibility in providing the money for this important work. He contended that the club should engage a patrol until the money in hand for this purpose was spent, and then leave the question of raising new money to others than Surf Club members. It was resolved to appoint a beach patrol at a salary of £4 weekly for four weeks, commencing from December 24, and to extend the time provided further funds were subscribed by outsiders. Messrs Spiller and C. Rlordan were appointed a sub-committee to select a. suitable man. It was decided to hold a race round the buoy on Sunday next at 2 p.m., to decide the ranking list for the ladder. Mr L. V. Wilson referred to the proper control of canoes, and urged the club to adopt some form of protective regulations. Messrs J. M’Ponald, L. R. Moore, A. T. Dalton and V. G. Spiller were appointed a sub-committee to draft, a. set of rules for control of canoeists.
