SANDERS CUP TRIAL.
Irene Scores Second Win To-day. E. O. Sinclair, the holder of the Sanders Cup. scored a second successive win this afternoon in the second trial for the selection of Canterbury’s, representative for the Sanders Cup contest. Sinclair scored a decisive win, taking the lead shortly after the commencement of the race, and defeating Manihi (T. Brasell) by lmin 57sec. Colleen was third. The race started at 3.17 p.m. Results: The competitors and their craft were: Irene (E. O. Sinclair): Manihi (G. Brassell): Colleen (W. Tissiman); Jean R. Henry); Elfin <J. D. Hobbs) : and Avenger (R. Priddy). The course was triangular, a lead from the moles to a buoy moored off Church Bay Point, a beat to the buoy off Battery Point and a run back to a buoy off the end of the Gladstone Pier, twice round, finishing at the start. From a spleitdid start in a fresh north-east wind, Irene dropped to weather of the other boats and on the run across the harbour gradually forged ahead and rounded the Church Bay mark 40sec ahead of Avenger. Jean was third with the other boats close together. - Following a long beat to Garland’s : Bay, Irene made Battery Point lmin 35sec ahead of Manihi. Colleen was 25sec away third. Avenger followed ’ 30sec after her, with Jean 50sec later. , Elfin was last. On the run down t.o Gladstone Pier, the wind lightened, but all the boats ' made a good run.
