SHIPPING SCHEME.
£2,000,000 Subsidy for Tramps. BIG SCRAPPING PROGRAMME. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received December 1, 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, November 30. A White paper gives details of a scheme for a subsidy of £2,000,000 for tramp shipping in 1935 and also modifications of the July scheme for scrapping, rebuilding and modernising cargo vessels at an estimated cost of £10,000,000. It will require owners to scrap two tons for every new ton built and one ton for every ton modernised. Only ships registered as British ships since January 1, 1934, and vessels constructed in Britain thereafter will be eligible for the subsidy. Tankers and passenger ships, or those with substantial refrigerated space, will be ineligible.
