N.Z. BAND CONTEST.
Twenty-four Entries for Event at Timaru. (Special to the “ Star.*') TIMARU, November 6. Nearly 1000 bandsmen and officials will converge on Timaru for the New Zealand Brass Bands’ Association’s annual contest which is to be held from February 18 to 23 inclusive. Eleven A grade and thirteen B grade bands have entered. The A grade entries include Palmerston North Garrison, last year’s champion combination, St Kilda, winner of the quickstep at last contest, and Woolston, which put up such a particularly fine showing at the Australian contest. Last year the contest was held at Wellington, where thirty-three entries were received. The competing bands will be:— A Grade—lnvercargill Civic, Kaikorai. Nelson Garrison, Palmerston North Garrison, Port Nicholson, Queen Alexandra's Own, St Kilda, Wanganui Garrison. Wellington Municipal Tramways, Woolston. Timaru Municipal. B. Grade Artillery Band Southern Command, Ashburton, Band of Ist Southland Regiment. Christchurch Municipal, Gore Municipal. Greymouth Municipal, Hastings Citizens, Masterton Municipal Silver, Palmerston North City Silver. Taranaki Regimental and New Plymouth Municipal, Wellington Boys’ Institute. Wellington Artillerv, Westport Municipal.
