When the players mentioned in the cable visit Christchurch, tennis enthusiasts will have the opportunity of seeing the singles champions of the world in action, in Perry and Miss Round. They won the British Lawn Tennis Championships, and these are looked upon as being world championships, as the best players from all over the world take part. Miss Round is at the top of her form, and played superlative tennis in the championships. It has been described as some of the best tennis ever seen at Wimbledon. G. P. Hughes, who has partnered Perry for some years in the Davis Cup matches, was, until this year, a firstclass doubles man. However, during the past year, his play seems to have gone back.. He is a reliable singles man, and employs the slice shot a great deal. Misses Lyle and Dearman are both among the leading English players of to-day. The provincial championships and the South Island championships will be played at Wilding Park this year, and these along with the preliminary rounds of the Nunneley Casket and Wilding Shield matches, and matches with the English visitors should prove an interesting tennis year.
