Nichol Wins Title Bout With Strickland. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, July 18. Ray Nicol (Ohau) regained the heavyweight boxing title of New Zealand, which he forfeited recently owing to an arm injury, when he defeated Maurice Strickland (Wellington) on points this evening before a crowded house. Nicol’s weight was 12st 71b and Strickland's 3 2st 121 b. Nicol made his opponent miss a great deal by clever ducking and also scored by superior work at close range. Strickland did not seem to be happy against «ie tactics adopted by Nicol. Striokland was anxious to win by a knock out. but though he connected with head punches on several occasions he at no time had Nicol at his mercy, as was the case when they previously met. Mcol was clearly ahead on points.
