(Special to the ” Star.”) ASHBURTON, July IS. A meeting of the General Committee ot the Ashburton Boxing Association was held last night, Mr H. D. Johnston presiding. Correspondence was received from Mr S. Easton (Oamaru) asking for matches with S. Easton, jun., and Basil M’Pherson. It was decided to suggest that possibly match contests could be arranged if a team could come from Oamaru towards the end of August or early in September. It was decided that no one would be admitted without his season ticket or a pass. Mr L. Anderson was thanked for donating a prize for the best loser in the classes under light weight. The house committee reported that additional seating had been provided and the heating arrangements would be rearranged. The following officials were appointed for the professional contest between Percy Hawes and Con Brosnahan, which will take place at Hi.s Majesty’s Theatre on July 31: Referee. Mr H. D. Johnston; judges, J. H. Grigg, H. R. M’Elrea (professional), A. N. Grigg, .T. B. Cullen (amateur); announcers, Messrs W. Tucker and A. Hayston: scales and doctors’ stewards, Messrs J. Murdoch and A. Hayston; competitors’ stewards, Messrs F. Crum and D. Lynch: timekeepers, Messrs F. B. Robillinrd and C. B. Gass; gloves, Mr J. W. Smith: house stewards. Messrs M. Keeley. F. Ctum and W. Tucker; official seconds. Messrs C. Shearman and C. Stock. Four preliminary bouts will take place between local boys and possibly IV. Shutt (Orarl) and A. J. Bourne (Christchurch). An invitation was extended to P. Hawes to attend Thursday’s tournament.
