BOARD CRITICISED.
Accused of Lack of Enthusiasm. At last night’s meeting of the Papanui Progress League strong comment was made at the lack of enthusiasm of the members of the Technical Board of Governors in advocating the building of the No. 2 school in and in placing before the public the great overcrowding at the present school. Mr W. J. Boyce presided. Mr J. Sturrock said the report lacked any enthusiasm. No figures were quoted and it was doubtful if the‘Board of Governors were really alive to the .-tern necessity of more accommodation and the need for proceeding with the No. 2 school at Papanui. The school would have been built in 1931 if the board had been unanimous, and their indecision was still apparent. It was not in the interests of the children to learn in overcrowded classes and the large classes did not lead to efficient teaching. A class could be so large that discipline became lax. To northern Christchurch the present school was too distant, especially in the winter months. The chairman agreed that the present position could not continue and the meeting unanimously decided to leave further action in the chairman’s hands.
