ORANGES AND LEMONS SCARCE.

American Strike Causes Hold-up of Regular Supplies.

FISH ALSO IN SHORT SUPPLY.

The waterfront strike at West American ports has caused a shortage of oranges and lemons in Christchurch. Sunkist lemons are very scarce and retailers are now depending mainly on New Zealand-grown. Island oranges are to the front at present, as the strike has cut off the supply ,of Americans, and the embargo prevents shipments from Australia. Poorman oranges are selling at 31b for Is. A big shipment of pineapples has made them cheap at from Is to Is 6d each Heavy seas have prevented the fishing boats from plying, and all available varieties are at prices higher than they were yesterday. Eggs are plentiful, though there is some difficulty in obtaining the largest size owing to their being required for incubation. Quotations are-
