MINIATURE RIFLES.
Result of Postal Challenge Competition.
(Special to the *** Star.”) ASHBURTON, July 17. The results of the postal match tor the New Zealand Miniature Rifle Challenge Shield were announced to-day by the Ashburbon Miniature Rifle Club, which conducted the competition. Thu best scores (496) were returned by United (Christchurch), Chrietchurelz and Sydenham, and these clubs Wilt shoot off to decide the winner*. The handsome shield, which la valued at £SO, and was presented by the citizen* of Ashburton, was won last year by the Christchurch Club’s team, th# previous holders being as follows:—— 1932, Timaru: 1931, Sydenham; 1934, Ashburton: 1929, Cashmere; 1928, Sydenham: 3 927, Ashburton; 1926. Sydenham; 1925, Sydenham; 1924, Ashburton* From 1924 to 1911 the trophy was competed for on the Ashburton Club’* range, and In Order to avoid expense* Incurred in travelling, the shield toad been competed for during the past three year* on home range condition*. The detailed result* were a* fol» lows:—Christchurch 496, Sydenham 496, United (Christchurch) 496, SumnerItedcliff* 494, Christchurch Working Men’s Club No. I 492, Pleasant Point No. 1 492, Caehmere No. 1 492, Auckland 489, Glenlti 489, Christchurch No* 1 488. Cashmere No. 3 488, Timaru 488, Glenavy 488, Winchester 488. Bull* 486. Longburn 485, Oamaru Railway 484, Christchurch Working Men’s Club No. 2 483, Plea*ant Point No. 2 482, Bum-ner-RedclKTs No. 3 481, Timaru Fir# Brigade 480, St Patrick’* (Timaru) No. 1 479, .Morven 478. St Patrick’s No. 2 (Timaru) 469. Targets were not returned from Math van. Whangarei or Cromwell Railway. As the Ashburton Club organised the match, the club did not enter a team. ,
